The Grand Mosque

The official name for this beauty is the "Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque"
We arrived at approximately 9AM and it was breath-taking with the sun behind it .The mosque is still not complete as we toured it a couple of days ago. There are just a few things to finish up on the outside of it. It truly is gorgeous. A lot of time went into the details of which I tried to capture in as many photos as possible.
Be sure to look at each picture closely. You can left click on any picture and it will enlarge for a full screen look. The details are what I was trying to capture. For example, if there is a pattern on a glass or wall, you will see that exact pattern on the carpet or in all three areas. The same flowers can be found on the carpet, the glass, and ceiling.
Notice the Arabic writings around the circumference of the domes. There are several different pictures of the domes. In case you haven't noticed, I am totally into Chandeliers. There are several of them throughout the mosque and unfortunately the pictures do not do them justice.
Pieces and parts where imported from all over the world, for example, one of the chandeliers is made of “2 million Swarovski crystals. The columns holding up the central dome are of roman design made with Greek marble, crafted in China and inlaid with mother of pearl from New Zealand. The carpet is Iranian, the flowers on the walls Singaporean, and the ceiling design is Moroccan” (TimeOut Magazine pg19, September 2008). I will post a link to TimeOut magazine where you can find the complete story of the Mosque including square ft., and the size of the largest carpet in the world (I think).
