Vegetables From All Over The World

I love going to the vegetable stand here in Abu Dhabi. The choice of fruits and vegetables is amazing. Best of all you can haggle a better price, with the exception of the corn on the cob. There was absolutely no haggling on the corn, I tried several times with several different vendors. The vegetables are from all over the globe. Apples from Chile, tangerines from Australia, and the list goes on and on.

My new favorite fruit is pomegranate. You peel it away and inside you find all these red, corn kernel looking thingy-ma-bobs. It is sooooo sweet, and best of all, it is an antioxidant. I eat them as a snack like raisins or grapes. They fill up the tummy. I am trying to watch what I eat as I have gained weight since I have been enjoying the wonderful cuisine that is all over Abu Dhabi. I have a membership to the gym around the corner for a month. With the membership comes my very own personal trainer. It is working out nicely. Maybe I will post some pics when I feel proud of myself. For now have a look at these pics of my workout partner, Andyrooney.

I know this is really short. There hasn't been a whole lot going on. I have been so busy with my English class that is like no other English class I have ever heard of. They are making it harder and harder to get that grade. This term ends in a couple of weeks. I will have another post for you soon.

My Lovely Camel Humps

Andrew has been on another adventure. He had to dress in a DishDash to go but explained how comfortable it was. He had a great time. When he return home he told me all about it. He fed the camels and petted them. He did not get spatt on haha. He says the camels are really nice and gentle. While holding Myla, the 5 year old little girl that lives in our apartment building, a camel decided to rest his head on her lap. Drew was amazed how big the black camels are. I am not sure why they are so big but I intend to find out. He was so excited when he returned from this trip to the camel farm. I fully intend on visiting the farm in the very near future.

This picture is my personal favorite. Doesn't the Camel look like she is wearing fake eyelashes? Wish I had eyelashes like that hahahaha.

I have more pictures. Will post upon request.

Let the Record Show...things are about to change around here.

I told myself I would not blog about the election because I grew very weary of hearing about it 24/7 over the past two years. But after waking up this morning to hear the confirmation of our new President Electee, Barrack Obama I thought about how the people of America must be feeling, and how the rest of the world must be taking a sigh of relief.

Let the record show, that in the case of George W. Bush, the people all agreed after eight years that America needed a big change. I hope that speaks volumes to the rest of the world. Those in other countries may hate Americans but why do you hate them? Do you hate them because of their government and the choices the government made "in their best interest"? Governments obviously don't always make decisions in the peoples best interests but some of the time make decisions in their best interest.

To all the races, consider this, a lot of votes went into the victory of Obama. We all came together to help Obama become victorious in the race. Let's all continue to work together. Obama is there because we need change, lets do just that. Change the way we have been thinking for the past century. Change the way we have been treating each other. This is the beginning.

In closing, I just have to say I am very sad that Obama's Grandmother could not see her grandson become America's very first black president. I know she must have been holding on for it. The Good Lord took her home the day before. She knows though, I am sure of it.

Short Bus Short Fire Truck

Well today was exciting. From our apartment window there is truly nothing exciting besides the mosque, usually. Today a dumpster was on fire. Now listen for a moment. I know those of us from say America see this kind of thing ALL the time and we don't think twice about it. Here, well lets just say that it was probably the highlight of the day hehehehe. It was for me anyway and for Drew.

I know in the past, I have asked people if they "road the short bus" but now I have seen people that actually ride "the short fire truck" for real. Besides the short truck that had no less than 12 firefighters on it, they couldn't get the water to come out of the hose for awhile hehehehehe. I am just really happy the fire was for the most part contained inside the dumpster.

Guess what? PICTURES.........

At first glance...

Road Cleaners first on the scene...

Okay it looks worse than it really is...

Da Da Daaaaaaaa Fire Fighters Arrive

uhhhhhhhhhhhhh, there's no water coming out of the hose.

Still no water

Here we go

Scuba Diving

Well Andrew has returned from his first scuba diving adventure on Halloween no less but advises he saw no gobblins under water just the ones on the boat hehehe. After 3 nights and two days of being on a boat, he hasn't found his land legs yet hehehehe. When he returned home last night, we grilled him on his adventure. We have never been diving so we were anxious to live vicariously through Andrew. We could have gone without hearing about the motion sickness hehehehe.

Andrew told us he saw many different aquatic species from Sea Turtles, Angel fish, Clown fish, Sea Urchins to a Baracuda all at least 10 times the size anyone has ever seen outside of the water. He advised us that after you get past the first couple meters you are then in the clear blue still water where he advises the only things moving are the living. He said there wasn't any current to speak of but noted the "Red Tide" was in. He accidentally swallowed some of that nasty water and forced himself to vomit directly after. Thank goodness he isn't sick. And thank god the vomit didn't attract any ferosious swimmers with big teeth hehehehe. Drew said that it was beautiful with all the vivid bright colors like some of us have only seen on the TV screen. Drew enjoyed a fantastic feast at a BBQ on the beach before returning to the boat for along napp.

Nicholas and I were hoping Drew would like it enough to take lessons as a trade to fall back on if all else failed. He can enjoy scuba diving from any coastal city and once he becomes a masterdiver he can train others as a wonderful means of income however seasonal. I would love to learn to scuba dive with my son as my instructor.

On the long drive home the group stopped at a fruit market in one of the towns. Drew bought me some mango and watermelon which is what I always request when friends go. The group, traveling home narrowly escaped a major accident directly in front of them which isn't a surprise the way people drive here as I have blogged about before.
